Un día como hoy pero de 1928, nació Gabriel García Márquez en Aracata, Colombia, sin embargo desde muy joven vivió en la capital.

Estudió periodismo en la Universidad Nacional y sus primeros escritos fueron publicados en el diario El Espectador, donde colaboraba.

A los 27 años publicó su primera novela, “La hojarasca”, donde marcó su obra de ficción y llena de fantasía.

“Gabo” como es bien conocido, apoyó la guerrilla cubana hasta su triunfo en 1959 y junto con su amigo Fidel Castro, participó en la fundación de Prensa Latina, una agencia de noticias de Cuba.

Fue en 1967, a unos meses de cumplir los 40 años, que el colombiano publicó una de las novelas más importantes de la literatura universal del siglo XX, Cien Años de Soledad, una obra que le tomó veinte años en escribir.

Dos años después, decidió instalarse en Barcelona donde entabló una amistad con Carlos…

Although the monetary terms were not released, Del Rosario said the proposal involves student labor from the University of Hawaii Maui College’s Sustainable Construction and Technology Program. She called the idea of student internships a “value-added component” of the project.

“I will provide an opportunity for students in the sustainable construction program to participate in the deconstruction process,” she said.

County officials have wanted to salvage as much of the building materials as possible and not have them go to the Central Maui Landfill, Hironaka said. People who have looked at the building – constructed with African mahogany, a valuable, high-quality wood – have determined that “not that much is salvageable,” Hironaka said, because it was built in a tongue-and-groove fashion.

“There’s no nails,” he said. “Everything just kind of fits together.”
